Chastin H. Pierman

With over 10 years of legal experience exclusively representing charter schools in California, Chastin’s practice covers all aspects of labor and employment law. This includes serving as a negotiator for school boards, and working before California’s Public Employment Relations Board in all matters related to unions and charter schools. Specifically, Chastin has served as chief negotiator on many of the first labor agreements for charter schools in California.

In addition to defending charter schools in Superior and Appellate court matters, Chastin frequently works before the California Labor Commissioner, Department of Fair Employment & Housing, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other employment related agencies. She also regularly advises clients in complex employee discipline matters, including layoffs, investigations, grievances, employment contracts, policy development, union representation, defense of unfair labor practice claims, and employee leave laws.

Chastin is a featured speaker and regularly provides statewide training on labor relations and employment best practices as well as legal hot topics. She has served as a guest lecturer for the California Charter Schools Association, the Association of Personalized Learning Schools & Services, and the CSU Dominguez Hills Charter and Autonomous Public Leadership Academy (CASLA Program on Employment and Labor Law).

Chastin H. Pierman is a Sacramento native, daughter of an over 20 year school district employee, and granddaughter of a former New York School District Superintendent. She graduated magna cum laude from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles with a B.A. in International Business Administration where she was the four year recipient of the President’s Scholarship, Dean’s List Honors, and the International Business Student of the Year award. Chastin attended McGeorge School of Law where she received the Barrister’s Scholarship, Dean’s List Honors, and Honors in International Oral Advocacy. She instructed law students in the McGeorge International Advocacy Program through a Teaching Assistantship and also worked in the areas of medical malpractice and Alternative Dispute Resolution. She studied both Spanish and German extensively and dances ballet, tap, and Polynesian. Chastin is a member of the State Bar of California and the Sacramento County Bar Association.
